Mental Health Therapist

Living Well Counseling & Support Services LLC (LWCSS) is seeking a mental health counselor with minimum 5 years’ experience to work in  Christiansburg, VA office. 25-40 hours per week are expected with this position due to our expanding case load. This position is for an independent contractor (IC) relationship with LWCSS. Contracted employee is responsible for credentialing. (Preference given to those already credentialed with insurance companies and Medicaid.) The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing diagnostic assessments, therapy, and counseling and support services for a mixed caseload including adults, adolescents, and families experiencing a wide range of mental health issues. This is an opportunity to work as part of a dynamic and innovative team practice, providing services to clients in the New River Valley of SW Virginia. 

JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: 
Mental Health Therapist 

SUMMARY: 
The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing diagnostic assessments, therapy, counseling and related support services for a mixed caseload including adults, adolescents, and families experiencing mental health issues, communication challenges, or family conflict. You will work as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, providing services to a broad spectrum of clients. 

DUTIES: 
1. Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment. 
2. Act as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations. 
3. Evaluate clients' mental condition based on review of client information, interviews, observation, tests, and collaboration with other staff members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans. 
4. Develop and implement treatment plans based on diagnostic assessment, clinical experience and knowledge. 
5. Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems. 
6. Counsel clients, individually and in group sessions, to assist them in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes. 
7. Provide individual couples and family counseling services using family management principles to clients. 
8. Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients' status. 
9. Provide collateral consultation as appropriate as well as court testimony as required. 
10. Submit billing and other related paperwork in a timely fashion. 
11. Maintain all professional licensure(s) required and provide prompt cooperation with third party credentialing for billing purposes. 
12. Maintain up-to-date client and billing records as required by LWCSS and Insurance companies. 
13. Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports. 
14. Conduct activities related to compliance with federal and state laws related to mandated reporting, HIPPA, and the Data Privacy Act. 



QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology. Independent licensure as a LMFT, LCSW or LPC  
2. Prefer candidate with five years’ experience providing diagnostic assessment experience and therapy services to a full range of individuals from youth through adulthood, addressing a wide variety of problems and disorders, in a multicultural setting. 
3. Must maintain professional licensure and/or certification throughout contractual term with LWCSS. 
4. Must be able to work flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends on occasion. 
5. Must be free from alcohol and chemical dependency and must maintain this freedom for the full duration of your employment with LWCSS. If formerly chemically dependent, must have two years of freedom from alcohol and drug dependency preceding employment with the agency. 
6. Must be able to work as a team member and cooperatively with other LWCSS Staff and outside business alliances. 
7. Must have good written and oral communication skills and good organizational skills. 
8. Must maintain LWCSS, coworker, and client confidentiality and abide by the Data Privacy Act and the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act. 
9. Must successfully pass a criminal and sexual contact background check. 

Compensation:
This is an independent contractor position. Selected IC applicant will be entitled to payments from each payor and insurance carriers, for each patient for whom contract services are provided as shared with LWCSS per contract terms agreed to by IC with LWCSS.
